OLDER JDM

101 – THE BASICS

Welcome to the heart and soul of ECC. This is where our journey began and where our passion for older JDM vehicles was born. These classic Japanese cars from the 90s and early 2000s were our playgroun and the very foundation of our expertise. Think of it as our “apprenticeship,” where we learned the ropes, much like learning to ride a bike, and where it all began.

Covering a broad spectrum of iconic drift, touge, and mountain run cars, our experience spans the likes of the Nissan S and R series (S13, S14, S15, R32, R33, R34 Skylines etc), Toyota’s legendary models (Supra, Aristo, Chaser, Sprinter, AE86, MR2), as well as the Honda Civic, Mazda RX7, and Mitsubishi Evo to name a dew. While our primary focus is on these platforms, we’re always open to exploring other older JDM and sports compact vehicles upon request and inspection.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the appreciation and value of these vintage Japanese cars have skyrocketed. No longer seen as mere “bangers” or “drift pigs”, they have transitioned into collector’s items, requiring specialized knowledge and skills to modify and upgrade. At ECC, we shun the outdated “cheap & nasty” approach of using low-quality parts and makeshift solutions. Instead, we honor these vehicles for what they are and strive to provide top-tier maintenance and modifications, ensuring their performance and longevity.

These high-performance vehicles, while nostalgic and thrilling, often demand more meticulous care than modern cars. Finding experts familiar with these classics is becoming increasingly rare, but at ECC, we wear this hat with pride. Our commitment to quality and our deep understanding of these vehicles set us apart.

With a history of working on these vehicles for over 20+ years, we have found that most of the other “big name workshops” and our competitors for nearly 2 decades ago have since closed down, leaving ECC as THE #1 performance garage in QLD for JDM performance on these vehicles. No one has the amount of knowledge, skills and experience working on these platforms as team ECC, and we will continue to embrace this genre, regardless of the way the carpark in Asutralia shifts.

Join us in celebrating the enduring legacy of older JDM vehicles. Whether you’re looking to restore, upgrade, or simply maintain your prized car, ECC is here to help you create something special.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW WHEN MODIFYING THIS PLATFORM

Whilst it seems to be a bit of an industry standard, to look at modification paths for a car based on bundles of modification, commonly referred to as “stages”. We have found at ECC that this isn’t always the case, with all builds being different in their own right, and comparing “stages” is generally not a great like for like comparison when there is no regulation between what a workshop will include in said stages.

For this reason, why have put together this basic modification and upgrade guide, which should walk you through the basics of what you need to know when modifying this platform. Specifically, the best ways to go about things and more importsntly, what NOT to do, toensure you dont make expensive or costly mistakes when commencing this journey.

Throw in your details and download a copy – this should give you most of the information you need to know when it comes to this platform, and of course, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.
