WRX

101 – THE BASICS

The original cult “all wheel drive” Japanee sports car, the WRX name is a synonomous with performance as the other big guns like GTR and EVO. From 2015, the WRX lineup has now been split from the Impreza, with different body styling and a whole new look.

The first 3 generations of WRX (1992-2014), up until 2015, were all based off the “Impreza” platform. But with the release of the 4th generation WRX, they were given the chassis designation VA and then marketed as their own separate model. This model is the first of the WRX line to deviate from the old EJ series of engine. Using the new 2.0L FA20F direct injection turbocharged engine. Certain models were even released with the new CVT transmissions – and well, I was always told if there is nothing nice to say then say nothing.

Now with the introduction of direct injection came a different host of issues, with the FA engine also not being the most robust from factory, but when tuned and modified by the right people, the new WRX is still a fan favourite.  Rest assured, the team from ECC has plenty of experience in getting the most out of this platform reliably, and would be more than happy to have a chat anytime in regards to turning your WRX into something a little more special.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW WHEN MODIFYING THIS PLATFORM

Whilst it seems to be a bit of an industry standard, to look at modification paths for a car based on bundles of modification, commonly referred to as “stages”. We have found at ECC that this isn’t always the case, with all builds being different in their own right, and comparing “stages” is generally not a great like for like comparison when there is no regulation between what a workshop will include in said stages.

For this reason, why have put together this basic modification and upgrade guide, which should walk you through the basics of what you need to know when modifying this platform. Specifically, the best ways to go about things and more importsntly, what NOT to do, toensure you dont make expensive or costly mistakes when commencing this journey.

Throw in your details and download a copy – this should give you most of the information you need to know when it comes to this platform, and of course, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.
