Mustang

101 – THE BASICS

One of the platforms that ECC is internationally renowned for, the remarkable 6th Generation Mustang, known as the s550, is a groundbreaking model that represents a significant evolution in the Mustang lineage.

More importantly, at a time in Australia where our classic RWD v8 performance vehicles were being phased out, the s550 Mustang hit our shores and offered an incredible platform that the people wanted, that responded amazingly to modifications, at an awesome price point, and created an almost cult like following down under.

The key to the S550’s performance is the classic Gen 2 Coyote engine, characterized by a quad-cam design, Twin Independent Variable Cam Timing (TI-VCT), and in the Gen3 series, Direct Injection technology amongst some other changes. This engine has demonstrated exceptional responsiveness to modifications and performs exceptionally well with boosted applications. It notably favors higher revs over low-end torque, representing a departure from traditional V8 engines.

In terms of transmission, the S550 Mustang incorporates the 6R80 in FM models alongside the MT82, while the FN models are equipped with the 10R80 paired with a revised MT82 featuring a twin-plate clutch setup.

In summary, the S550 Mustang presents a transformative shift in the Mustang legacy, particularly here in Australia – introducing a globally accessible model with advanced engineering, modern design, and powerful performance capabilities, in a RWD v8 platform built for the Aussie car enthusiast.

With the 7th generation S650 soon to hit Australian shores, you can rest assured Team ECC will be at the forefront of all things Mustang, and at the top of the tree again when it comes to building Australia’s most awesome Mustangs.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW WHEN MODIFYING THIS PLATFORM

Whilst it seems to be a bit of an industry standard, to look at modification paths for a car based on bundles of modification, commonly referred to as “stages”. We have found at ECC that this isn’t always the case, with all builds being different in their own right, and comparing “stages” is generally not a great like for like comparison when there is no regulation between what a workshop will include in said stages.

For this reason, why have put together this basic modification and upgrade guide, which should walk you through the basics of what you need to know when modifying this platform. Specifically, the best ways to go about things and more importsntly, what NOT to do, toensure you dont make expensive or costly mistakes when commencing this journey.

Throw in your details and download a copy – this should give you most of the information you need to know when it comes to this platform, and of course, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.
